Surrogacy Costs

Costs for surrogacy are  hard to estimate because assisted reproductive techniques remain purely an aid to pregnancy and cannot guarantee a positive result. As with any pregnancy, miscarriages are not uncommon. This can mean multiple embryo transfer attempts and/or pregnancies are required, incurring additional cost.

For many, repeated embryo transfers are required before a pregnancy occurs.

The table below outlines approximate average costs of a successful surrogacy arrangement in select countries (US dollar amounts), excluding travel, accommodation and (where available) health insurance which can add significantly to total bills..

Where you are engaging in international surrogacy, additional costs will be incurred in flights, accommodation, passport applications and often legal fees and DNA testing dependent on your country’s requirements. Many intended parents also require an egg provider, so will incur additional costs for this aspect.

Note that the costs below are average final costs reported, rather than the prices an agency will initially quote. These averages take into account the common need for a series of embryo transfers, given success may require a number of transfers.
